The Dance Weaver films

​Following the sudden intermittent closure of Bridport Youth Dance in March 2020 we established a remote programme initially followed by  an outdoor programme . At this time we danced in gardens with live music, we danced on beaches, we created site specific work and short dance films.  We also recognised quickly that this was a beautiful way of working and haven't stopped . Our work in the land continues with Choreography Geography - site specific work and The Dance Weavers films. 

Our first two DW films - The Dance Weavers  - Emerging and Freedom/Connection were selected to represent South West England at the  national U-Dance platforms with Freedom/ Connection being premiered at The British Film Institute, Southbank, London.  Freedom/ Connection and From the Boards to the Earth were also selected to feature as a part of the Exeter Dance International Film Festival.

​The Dance Weavers 3 ( From the Boards to the Earth) and 4 ( Choreography Geography) have been supported by Arts Council England, Activate Performing Arts, Dorset Council - Youth Development and Community and Culture Fund, Dorset National Landscape, Groves Nurseries, Bridport Town Council and Brit Valley Rotary.  Dance Weavers  5 and 6 were supported by Arts Council England, Dorset National Landscape, Dorset Youth development Fund  ( DW 5), Dorset Council, Groves Nurseries and Bridport Town Council.

As a part of our new future vision our outdoor dance education programme continues and now called BYD's  ART and DANCE in the LAND which creates site specific work in the stunning local landscape, celebrates young people and encourages them to connect with nature through dance. 

​We will continue with our short dance film series The Dance Weavers and will soon be starting our 7th film which takes dance into the local landscape.

Choreography Geography 2024 will take place on September 6th and 7th. More details soon.
