“I have been a member of BYD for 5 wonderful years and cannot fully express how it has
improved my life. It constantly challenges and provides me with new approaches to dance and has enabled me to pursue dance in further education. BYD has a beautiful sense of community and friendship with everyone enjoying classes and the freedom of creativity that is offered to us.”
Rebecca Whaley Ex-BYD student
"I am currently training at the Guildford School of Acting on the BA musical theatre course with a full scholarship. Before I had met Nikki and started her classes at Danceworks in London, I had only previously trained in tap dancing whilst performing in 'Billy Elliot the Musical' at the Victoria Palace Theatre. My knowledge of various tap styles and movement vocabulary was very limited and specific. Nikki opened my eyes to so many new forms and techniques of tap dancing that were so inspiring and enjoyable to perform. Her lessons were invaluable to me and massively expanded my knowledge of dance as an art form. I was lucky enough to perform in two of Nikki's shows in Bridport at age 15 and 16 and had such a brilliant time. As a teacher, Nikki was so inspirational. But more importantly, she will always be a great friend of mine".
Greg Bernstein former West London School Of Dance student
“The standard and creativity of Bridport Youth Dance is incredibly inspiring and is leading the way for youth dance companies across the county. I was really impressed by the confidence of Bridport Youth Dance to move away from the main stream and devise a unique and inspiring collaboration. Crossing boundaries between dance, theatre, music and digital media their work stands out as incredibly professional and experimental. It gave the young people taking part a wonderful opportunity to work with professional artists from various disciplines in an experience which is above and beyond a traditional dance class format. There was a great sense of ownership and pride conveyed from the young people. I hope that Bridport Youth Dance will be able to continue the excellent and progressive work that they are creating with young people in West Dorset.” Alice Chutter Community Youth Dance Co-ordinator
“Bridport Youth Dance is a shining beacon of excellence for young people interested in developing their skills and confidence through dance and movement. Bridport Youth Dance's whole outlook is professional and ambitious and this has helped develop a reputation for interesting and innovative practice far beyond the local community”. Chris Huxley Senior Lecturer, Bournemouth University
